On Saturday, I worked through a couple of fiberjinx' modifications, settling on the version of the monkey socks I like the best. I'm knitting the perls because I don't fancy the look of perls on the right side. I decided that I do like the holes after all. They're staying.
I'm working toe-up, so the pattern is upside down. I tried and tried and I couldn't work out how to reverse the pattern - something to do with what happens after the yarn overs. I dunno. Upside down is ok anyway.
I got something like 9 stitches per inch when I swatched, so my socks are a nudge smaller than Cookie A's original pattern - so far they seem to fit without changing the pattern. That's lucky because I wasn't having much luck figuring out what to cut.
That is some magical sock yarn. I think after I've watched you blog a few more pairs of socks with the magic loop I'll be inclined to try it. I'll have to wait until the end of the school year and I have some brain space to work it out. I've never even tried one sock on circulars.

Becky: I LOOOOVE that yarn. I just love it. Of course the photos don't quite do it justice - there is a cool pearly sheen to it. It just makes me so happy to knit. I would buy more of this yarn in a heart beat. Regarding magic loop: Knittinghelp.com has a video that shows you how to move the knitting on and off the needles, so you can see the mechanics of it. Don't wait for me to give it a try.

Beautiful, beautiful...I am taking a toe-up class next week and I am very excited about it. Some how I imagine it opening up all sorts of doors for me!

They look great! Upside down, right side up - it's all good! Thanks for your comment today.

Heather: Make sure they teach you the magic 8 cast on. It's so great. None of that fussing around with waste yarn nonsense.
Cara: Thanks! It's a great pattern and I love how it kinda-sorta looks like cables, only not. Not sure I have it in me to knit 12 pairs, but I think I have a few of these monkeys in me. Ariba!
